S'Mores

This is the latest edition in the felt foods for the girls. Now they can have s'mores anytime!

You can even take the pretend play up a notch by making a Campfire for the whole experience.

To make the s'mores you'll need:
tan felt
brown felt
white felt
fleece or cotton batting

1. Make 4 squares with the tan felt. Place a piece of fleece between each square and sew two squares together. Sew a line down the middle to give the illusion of 2 crackers.
2. Cut 2 squares with the brown felt. Sew together with a piece of fleece in the middle. Stitch down the middle and turn and stitch 3 of 4 lines to create the seprate pieces of chocolate.
3. For marshmallow, cut a wave circle shape. You could cut 2 and put a piece of fleece in the middle for a puffy marshmallow.

Chicken Nuggets & Fries

Today Jaiden and I were looking at different foods made of felt and she "challenged" me to make her favorite meal, chicken nuggets. She is spending the night with Grandma so I cannot wait until she gets home and see these!

Easy to make! I just cut squares of light brown felt and rounded the corners. I hand stitched (over cast stitch)the nugget and stuffed them with poly stuffing. For the fries, I cut strips of yellow felt and sewed them on the machine.

All they need is a side of ketchup!

A Soft Pretzel

Okay, so this felt food is a little addicting!! I can't stop!! This is a soft pretzel like you get at a fair. If don't have a little one, like me, that still puts everything in her mouth, you can add salt to the pretzel. For the look of salt, just take thread and some white, long tubular beads and sew on in spots where you'd find salt.

The pretzel is easy to make, but seems to be the most time consuming so far.

Supplies:

3"x25" strip of light brown felt (you'll have to buy it off the bolt)
poly stuffing
Extras: needle for hand sewing and dowel rod or wire clothes hanger


Sew the felt making a long tube. Using a dowel rod, begin pushing stiffing into tube. As you stuff, make sure the seam is in the middle back.






Using a gathering stitch, close both ends of tube. Shape in form of a pretzel. Using an overcasting stitch, sew ends to pretzel. You might want to use straight pins to hold the shape while you sew.

Lo Mein & Fortune Cookies

Here's some more felt food that I have been working on today. I call this "Lo Mein" and it comes complete with fortune cookies!

It didn't take very long to make this; about 30 minutes. And, best of all, no fancy tools needed!

Supplies:
Lo Mein: light brown felt and green felt
Fortune Cookies: light brown felt and 18 gauge floral wire
Extras: hot glue gun

For Lo Mein: Use a ruler to make stripes on felt and cut out. You can skip the ruler part but, I cannot cut a straight line!


















For broccoli: Cut a green piece of felt 4 1/2"x5 1/2"







Fold in half. Staring at folded edge, cut strips to the half way point.







Roll up tightly and glue ends. Cut a thin strip of felt and wrap stem right where cut ends start. Glue in place.










Using your finger, fluff out ends.









To make the fortune cookies, cut a circle of felt (about 4.5") Glue a piece of wire in center of circle.







Fold one end over and bend into shape.










Flip ends over top of cookie.

Fried Eggs

I am working on making some felt food for the girls to play with in their kitchen. The first food I made is fried eggs. These are so simple! I am going to play around later today and see what else I can make.

You'll need:
1 piece white felt (6 eggs)
1 piece/scrap yellow felt
yellow thread
small amount poly stuffing

1. Sketch out egg shapes on felt and cut out.






2. Cut yolk shape out of yellow felt. Stitch yolk to egg. Stop sewing when you have almost completed the yolk. Lift presser foot. Using a pencil, stuff a small amount of stuffing into yolk. Lower presser foot and complete circle.

Valentine Fortune Cookies

I got this really cute idea to make Valentine fortune cookies from Martha Stewart.

Her site has the complete step by step instructions of how to make them. I did 2 different things when making mine than what her directions stated. First, I used hot glue. This worked very nicely! I don't have a half of a hour to wait for glue to dry! Second, I made the cookies a 4" instead of the 4 1/2" she suggests. I thought they looked a little too big and not very realistic.

I think I am going to get a smaller Chinese carry out box and place two fortune cookies inside. I am going to also put some Hershey Kisses in the box. Jaiden wants to give these to her classmates instead of the paper Valentine cards.
